Capacity Increase and Feeder Upgrade

The scope of the project was to replace the existing 72-25 kV 5 MVA transformer with a 72-25 kV 11/25 MVA transformer. It also required station upgrade of the metering, upgrading the feeder protection controllers and the addition of a remote monitoring and control system. This project is a great example of using engineering to combine new technologies and equipment with existing.


Design Included:

  • Provide project management of the electrical design of the project
  • Establish a temporary mobile transformer position to facilitate construction
  • Expand the substation fence and ground grid
  • Replacement and relocation of the line termination structure
  • Evaluate requirement for and if required replace 72 kV fuse and disconnect
  • Establish permanent mobile transformer position
  • Assist the Civil Designer with the roadway access by completing the new ultimate general arrangement for the site
  • Ground grid design and assessment
  • Complete revision to existing single line
  • Complete revisions to existing equipment plans and equipment profile drawings
  • Create Schematics and Wiring Diagrams
  • Create Panel and Equipment Layouts
  • Assist in development of RFP for construction
  • Provide construction support
  • Complete As Built drawings based on field provided As Built markups
  • Assist with arranging for the delivery of the new transformer and the salvaging of the existing transformer
